BMW may build an X3 M and X4 M

Building on the success of the BMW X5 M and X6 M SUVs BMW may soon release high-performance versions of the smaller X3 and X4 models. BMW M boss Frank van Meel recently spoke to Autocar at the Detroit Auto Show where he revealed that there may be more opportunities to expand the number of high-performance M models in the BMW lineup.
“There might be a business opportunity with the X3/X4,” van Meel stated. “We’re continuing our success story with new versions of the X5 M and X6 M.”

While no decision has been confirmed, van Meel also revealed that the future BMW M cars, like the M5 will soon be offered with all-wheel-drive. The next-generation M5 and M6 will be offered with a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system.
