BMW i5 to Borrow the Hydrogen Fuel-Cell System from the Toyota Mirai?

Everyone is jumping on the fuel-cell bandwagon and now it’s being reported that BMW may tap its current relationship with Toyota for a fuel-cell vehicle for the i-sub brand.

Yesterday Toyota officially dropped all the details for the 2016 Mirai fuel-cell vehicle. Everyone is jumping on the fuel-cell bandwagon and now it’s being reported that BMW may tap its current relationship with Toyota for a fuel-cell vehicle for the i-sub brand.
It’s long been rumored that BMW is working on another i model, which could be dubbed the i5. According to Autocar, the i5 could get a hydrogen-electric fuel-cell powertrain that would differentiate it from the current i3 and i8 models. BMW and Toyota already have a signed partnership to work on fuel-cell vehicles.

BMW’s rivals are also working on fuel-cell vehicles. Mercedes-Benz has already confirmed a hydrogen-powered B-Class that will arrive in 2017 and Audi is going to reveal the A7 Sportback h-Tron Quattro fuel-cell concept tomorrow at the LA Auto Show.
