Earlier this month BMW took the wraps off the 2015 BMW 2-Series Active Tourer five-door hatchback, which is the first of many front-wheel-drive BMW’s in the works. The 2-Series Active Tourer is expected to go on sale in Europe this fall, but since BMW has low expectations for a sales success in the U.S., we have to wait at least 15 months for its arrival.
Frank Niederlaender, head of product management for BMW lower-series vehicles says that the 2-Series Active Tourer isn’t expected to make a big impact in the U.S. since U.S. buyers traditionally don’t favor hatchbacks and its small size may also be a turn off.

BMW had similar thoughts about the X1 crossover when it launched and even delayed its arrival in the U.S. for three years because it thought it was too small for the U.S. But the X1 has proven them wrong and actually sold 10,000 more units last year than planned.
