If the Bentley Bentayga with its huge, powerful 12 cylinder engine is a bit much for you, Bentley has just unveiled a new, more sensible choice – the Bentayga V8. The new V8 joins the options list, in addition to the W12 engine and a diesel.

Bentley Bentayga V8

The Bentayga V8 is powered by a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 that generates 542 horsepower and 568 lb-ft. of torque. It will reach 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, which is just a few ticks slower than the 600 horsepower 6.0L W12 engine. The Betayga V8 has a top speed of 180 mph. And if you care, the V8 is rated at 24.8 mpg combined on the EU cycle.

As you would expect, the Bentayga V8 is lighter than the W12 powered version, but it still comes in at a hefty 5,280 pounds. To help move all that weight around, the Bentayga V8 introduces a new 48-volt Bentley Dynamic Ride suspension. Bentley says that the system is the first electric active roll control technology that utilizes a 48 volt system. The Bentayga V8 is also available with the world’s largest carbon-ceramic brakes.

Lastly there are some new interior trim options, including a high-gloss carbon-fiber finish that replaces traditional veneer surfaces; a wood and hide steering wheel; and a new rich red leather, Cricket Ball.

If you’re looking for a “greener” powertrain option, in March it’s expected that Bentley will unveil the new Bentayga plug-in hybrid.
