Bentley has pulled the wraps off the Bentayga SUV, which it bills as the “fastest, most powerful, most luxurious and most exclusive SUV in the world.” It’s been three years since Bentley revealed the EXP 9 F concept, which was a preview of the Bentayga. Is the world now ready for a Bentley SUV?
When the EXP 9 F concept was revealed, many critics panned it for its less than appealing exterior. Luckily some parts of the EXP 9 F didn’t make it into the production version, which is most noticeable from the front. The Bentayga’s face is more toned down and more in line with the styling of Bentley’s other models, than the EXP 9 F.

The Bentayga is based on VW Group’s MLB-Evo platform, which is also shared with the new Audi Q7. At launch the Bentayga will be only offered with a new 6.0L twin-turbocharged W12 engine. The 12-cylinder engine generates 600 horsepower and 663 lb-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic and standard all-wheel-drive. Bentley estimates that the Bentayga will reach 60 mph in 4.0 seconds with a top speed of 187 mph. Eventually diesel and plug-in hybrid versions will also be offered, in addition to a seven seater version.
Wolfgang Dürheimer, chairman and chief executive of Bentley Motors, comments: “The Bentayga is truly the Bentley of SUVs. It redefines luxury in the SUV sector and offers a genuine Bentley experience in any environment, thanks to a combination of unparalleled attention to detail, go-anywhere ability and cutting-edge technology. With this extraordinary car we are looking forward to an exciting period of strong growth and sales success for Bentley. The Bentayga is the next step in our brand’s bold future.”
The Bentayga will arrive in early 2016.
