Audi is going to reveal the e-tron electric SUV at a big event in San Francisco on September 17, but Audi has announced that production has already started in Brussels.

The Audi e-tron is Audi’s answer to other electric SUVs, like the Tesla Model X and Jaguar I-Pace. The e-tron will have a driving range over 248 miles and thanks to the 150 kW charging capability it can be recharged in only 30 minutes.

Two electric motors generate a combined 365 horsepower and 413 lb-ft. of torque, but a boost mode can amp up the power to 402 horsepower and 490 lb-ft. of torque for eight seconds.

“The Audi e-tron is a genuine pioneer,” stated Peter Kössler, Member of the Board of Management for Production and Logistics at Audi AG. “It features innovative technologies such as virtual exterior mirrors and combines traditional Audi qualities in handling and dynamics with technical Vorsprung that goes far beyond the car. Our Brussels plant was comprehensively modernized for the production of the electric car. This is the world’s first certified CO2-neutral mass production in the premium segment.” The Audi Brussels plant offsets all emissions produced at the site, by using energy from renewable sources.

Audi will start taking reservations for the e-tron when it debuts on September 17.
