While some automakers have been slowly breathing some life back into the wagon segment, Audi has yet to jump on the bandwagon. In the U.S. Audi still offers the A4 Allroad, but it’s still trying to appeal to the crossover crowd, but Audi’s latest model be a wagon lovers delight – the 2019 Audi A6 Avant.

Based on the all-new A6, the 2019 Audi A6 Avant is geared more towards buyers that need more space with up to 59.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seat down. With the rear seat up the latest A6 Avant still has 20 cubic feet of space for your stuff. For passengers, Audi says that the 2019 A6 Avant’s interior is larger than its predecessor. The interior space in the A6 Avant tops its competition with more front and rear elbow room as well as with knee room for rear seat passengers.

Under the hood all the engine options will feature a standard 48-volt mild hybrid system. The systems belt alternator starter recovers up to 12 kW of power during braking and feeds the electricity into a separate lithium-ion battery. With the engine switched off, the new Audi A6 Avant can coast between 34.2 – 99.4 mph. Audi hasn’t revealed which specific engines will power the new A6 Avant, but they will be mated to either a seven-speed S tronic or an eight-speed tiptronic transmission and the quattro all-wheel drive system.

While its unlikely that the 2019 Audi A6 Avant will arrive in the United States, there’s still a slim chance that an A6 Allroad could be offered. It would give Audi a rival to the Volvo V90 Cross Country.
