The all-new 2019 Volkswagen Jetta is arriving in showrooms this summer, but if you’re holding out for the more performance oriented Jetta GLI, you’ll have to wait for at least another year. VW has confirmed that the new Jetta GLI will not arrive until sometime next year.

Speaking to Autoblog, a VW representative revealed that the next Jetta GLI will debut within the next year. The even better news is that the new Jetta GLI will get a multi-link independent rear suspension, like the Golf, instead of the standard Jetta’s torsion-beam rear suspension. Under the hood the Jetta GLI will likely be powered the same 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder as the VW GTI, which means it will likely have 220 horsepower and 258 lb-ft. of torque. The four-cylinder can be mated to either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Given the fact that the next-generation Jetta GLI will be revealed within the next year, we’ll likely see it debut this fall at the LA Auto Show or Autoblog predicts that it might even debut at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show.
