Audi has unveiled the R8 e-tron piloted driving concept at the CES Asia show in Shanghai, China. The R8 e-tron piloted driving concept may look almost identical to the R8 e-tron electric car, but the big news here is what you can’t see – the concept previews Audi’s self-driving technology that is slated to arrive in two years.
The R8 e-tron piloted driving concept is based on the 2017 R8 e-tron, but it’s packed with video cameras, a laser scanner, ultrasonic sensors and radar sensors to see the road ahead. Audi says that the technology will be available to pilot its vehicles on its own in certain situations.
The R8 e-tron piloted driving concept is powered by the same 455 horsepower electric powertrain as the production R8 e-tron. It’s good enough for a 0-62 mph time of 3.9 seconds. The concept also has a range of 279 miles between charges and the best part is that the concept can be recharged in less than two hours.
