Audi has announced that it is working on a new electric model that will borrow the Porsche Mission E’s platform. The electric model will be a four-door model with a sleek couple-like roofline, like the Audi A7. Audi development board Peter Mertens recently revealed to German magazine Auto Motor Und Sport that Audi is working on a new electric four-door, which he calls the Audi E-Tron GT.

“The strength of the group is that we can divide up the work on the individual technologies. This does not only apply to drives, but also to individual components. In the PPE (Premium Platform Electric), for example, Porsche is responsible for the rear axle.”

Mertens continued, “We define ourselves very much about sportiness, motorsport, but also about vehicles such as an intended – let’s call it – E-Tron GT, a very independent four-seater and powerful electric vehicle with a breathtaking design language.”

Although Audi is currently calling the new electric four seater the E-Tron GT, that name will likely not be used for the production model. Audi’s new electric four-seater sedan will share its electric powertrain with the upcoming Porsche Mission E, which means we can expect around 600 horsepower and a driving range around 300 miles. The Audi E-Tron GT is expected to go on sale in 2022.
