Toyota has unveiled the updated 2027 Sequoia. It arrives with updated styling and technology, but for those in the market for greater off-road prowess without having to modify it after purchase, there is a new Trailhunter package available.
The big news for 2027 is indeed that Trailhunter option. An overlanding-minded take on the SR5, it follows in the footsteps of the Trailhunter editions found on the Tacoma, 4Runner and Tundra. It gets an upgrade in suspension and trail hardware.
You will find the package fitted with an Old Man Emu suspension, front recovery hooks, extra underbody shielding and Michelin LTX Trail 265/70R18 tires. To aid with traction where the going gets rough, Toyota has put in a locking rear differential along with Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control. A set of bronze wheels and some exclusive badging are enough to tell this one apart from the others in the range.
There are changes to be seen on the outside as well. The 2027 has a reworked grille and bumper. The higher trims have been given fresh chrome touches and the fog lights are now rectangular and part of the bumper design. For when visibility is an issue on the trail or in bad weather, the available RIGID fog lights and an upgraded LED light bar in the grille offer better illumination.
Step inside and the 14-inch touchscreen running Toyota’s newest Audio Multimedia system is standard fare. The “Hey Toyota” voice assistant is more responsive, there is built-in AT&T 5G and the interface has been made more to one’s liking with customizable widgets. A dash camera is also now standard.
The Digital Key system has been given an overhaul too; a compatible phone can be used to start and unlock the car right from an Apple, Google or Samsung wallet, with the ability to extend that access to five other drivers. And for the job site or a night of tailgating, the 2.4-kW onboard power inverter remains on hand.
On the safety front, the automaker is making its driver assistance suite, Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, standard equipment.. As for a price tag or when the 2027 will be on sale, Toyota has not announced that.
