Porsche is set to give its electric sports sedan a bit more of the character you would expect from a conventional performance car. The 2027 Porsche Taycan comes with a host of revisions to make it more usable on a daily basis and more fun to drive, not least of which is an E-Shift system that brings virtual gears to the table.

These changes are found throughout the Taycan range – you will see a reworked infotainment setup, better charging specs and new ways to personalize your vehicle. But for the enthusiasts, the new E-Shift is sure to be the talking point.
There is a fair amount of criticism out there that high-end EVs can come across as too smooth, too disconnected from what a sports car should be. Porsche wants to put an end to that with E-Shift.

On every 2027 model you can opt for this system and work the paddles on the steering wheel to control eight simulated gears. It is designed to mimic the feel of a shift with some artificial flair: gear-specific torque, a virtual rev limiter and a reimagined version of the Porsche Electric Sport Sound. You have the option of automatic or manual mode, and a new digital tachometer and shift lights in the instrument cluster will give you all the visual feedback you need.
It is standard fare on the Turbo GT and optional elsewhere. Porsche’s stated aim is to put some emotion back into the experience with sound and feel that you don’t normally get from an EV.

The 2027 model also gets the latest in Digital Interaction from Porsche. The software has been overhauled for a cleaner look and faster operation; the new processor puts down five times the computing power of what was there before. You will find customizable widgets and a sharp 3D view of the car.
They have also made the voice controls smarter with some AI assistance. Instead of having to keep prompting the assistant, you can have a more natural conversation, do a Google search or ask a follow-up question. And with over-the-air capability, Porsche can push out improvements and new features as they come along. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are better integrated as well.

To put some teeth in the Taycan’s range and charging, the Performance Battery Plus pack is now standard on the Taycan, 4 and 4S. That 105-kWh unit will charge at 320 kW if you are at a compatible 800-volt DC fast charger. Owners will also be able to check on the long-term health of the battery via a new display.
Porsche is following the rest of the industry in fitting a NACS port. From 2027, most of the lineup will have one on the front fender on the passenger side so you can plug directly into a Tesla Supercharger. The driver’s side stays with the J1772 AC port and Porsche will supply a CCS adapter for older infrastructure.
If you want to stand out, the Paint to Sample list has grown to 153 colors, including 16 newcomers like Loretta Purple and Rose Red alongside old favorites such as Shark Blue and Python Green.
For those after outright performance, the Manthey Kit is an option for the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach Package. It means larger brakes, a fresh set of wheels and tyres and some aerodynamic and suspension tweaks. Porsche touts that a Manthey-equipped Turbo GT put in a record 6:55.553 at the Nürburgring recently.
The 2027 Porsche Taycan will arrive now in the fall of 2026.
The rear-wheel-drive version is listed at $111,900, but once you add the $2,350 destination fee from Porsche you are looking at $114,250.
