Electric sedans are pretty scarce, especially at the entry of the segment, with the only two being the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Tesla Model 3. Kia is now ready to take on the Tesla with the debut of its new EV4 compact sedan.

The 2026 EV4 sedan is based on the same E-GMP platform as the EV6 and the EV3. Kia does have plans to release a hatchback version of the EV4, but that will not be available in the US. On the outside, its styling is on par with the EV3 and even has some of the same styling cues as the rest of Kia’s refreshed lineup.

Inside the interior looks pretty similar to the upcoming EV3 with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. There’s a 5.3-inch screen that sits in the middle of the bigger two for the HVAC controls.

One big change is that the EV4 has a 400-volt architecture, compared to the EV6;s 800-volt system. This means it will charge a bit slower, with it needing 31 minutes to charge from 10-80 percent on a DC fast-charger with the 81.4-kWh battery. A smaller 58.3-kWh battery will be available. The EV4 will only be offered with one motor at the front that generates 201 horsepower, which gets it up to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds with the larger battery.

Based on Europe’s WLTP cycle, the EV4 sedan has a driving range up to 390 miles, which will be a bit lower in the US when the EPA releases its rating. Production is slated to being in South Korea in March, while the US-spec versions will start being built later this year.
