If you’re looking for an luxury SUV that is at home off and off the road, there aren’t too many options, since most luxury SUVs place more emphasis on comfort with their unibody platforms. The good news is that Lexus continues to offer two body-on-frame SUVs for the true off-roading enthusiast that wants to hit the trails, but also not give up any of the comfort. Lexus recently introduced the new LX and now we have an all-new 2024 GX.

2024 Lexus GX

Lexus has unveiled the 2024 GX, which arrives with more rugged styling, a much improved interior and some big changes under the skin. The 2024 GX shares the GA-F platform wit te LX 600. Compared to its predecessor, the new GX has a more squared off look that aligns with its off-road chops. It’s also bigger with its width increasing by 3.74 inches, its wheelbase is 2.36 inches longer and its overall length has been stretched by 2.75 inches. Lexus has pushed the A-pillar back for better visibility and the front overhang has been decreased by 0.78 inches for improved clearance.

The GX is ready to take on whatever you can throw at it with its available 33-inch tires, while the rear tread is increased by 3.26 inches for Premium and Luxury trim levels and 4.06 inches for the Overtrail version. The 2024 GX gets a new double-wishbone front suspension with a multi-link rear suspension. An Adaptive Variable Suspension is available, while a new electric power steering system provides more feedback.

At launch the GX will arrive with a twin-turbocharged 3.4L V6 engine with 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, that’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission Towing capacity has increased to 8,000 lbs. for Premium, Premium+ and Overtrail trim levels. A hybrid version is slated to arrive later. The GX comes standard with full time 4WD and a Torsen limited slip center differential with locking feature.

The big news is the addition of the new Overtrail versions which includes the Overtrail and Overtrail+ models. It’s offered in a bi-tone exterior paint combination with an Atomic Silver/Black Roof, Incognito/Black Roof, Nori Green Pearl/Black Roof, or Earth/Black Roof. Overtrail versions feature standard 33-inch All-Terrain tires with 18-inch wheels, black accented overfenders and a standard aluminum skid plate. On the inside there’s the Lexus-first Chateau with Olive Ultrasuede accents and Black with Olive Ultrasuede accents. The Overtrail+ version comes with an exclusive seat design for optimal off-road comfort with available driver and front passenger massage seats and driver power cushion extender.

The Overtrail versions are ready for an off-roading adventure with Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, Downhill Assist Control, and 3D Multi-Terrain Monitor systems and Electronic-Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS). An electronic locking rear differential is exclusively available on the Overtrail versions.

2024 Lexus GX

Inside the interior is far more modern and luxurious than before. There’s seating for up to seven passengers with the second row being available with either a bench seat or captain’s chairs. On the tech front, the GX comes standard with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch touchscreen.

The 2024 Lexus GX will go on sale in early 2024.
