The past four generations of the Toyota Prius have never been described as stylish or sporty, but that’s changing with the 2023 Prius. Toyota has officially unveiled the new Prius and wow do we like what we see.

2023 Toyota Prius

Toyota is using the tagline “Hybrid Reborn” for the 2023 Prius and it’s easy to see why. This is by far the most stylish Prius to date. It’s also lower and wider to give it a sportier stance. The roofline has been lowered by 2 inches and the rear is 1 inch wider than the last generation Prius. The lower driving position also feeds into the sportier theme.

The 2023 Prius is based on the second-generation of Toyota’s TNGA-C platform. Under the hood there’s the fifth-generation of Toyota’s hybrid powertrain which mates a larger 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine to an electric motor and lithium-ion battery. The front-wheel drive Prius has 194 horsepower and a 0-60 time of 7.2 seconds, which is a big improvement over the last Prius, which took 9.8 seconds to reach 60 mph. Toyota estimates that it will have a 57 mpg combined rating.

The all-wheel drive Prius returns with an additional electric motor that powers the rear wheels when extra traction is needed. The all-wheel drive Prius has 196 hp and can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 7.0 seconds. The Prius Prime plug-in hybrid also returns with 50 percent more electric range and 220 hp.

Inside the more modern interior is available with a 12.3-inch touchscreen that runs the Toyota Audio Multimedia system. It also comes standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while a Wi-Fi hotspot is available. On the safety front the 2023 Prius comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes several driver assistance tech features, like automatic emergency braking, lane departure alert with steering assist, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams.
