It’s been 20 years since Jeep unveiled the Rubicon trim for the Wrangler and to celebrate the big anniversary, Jeep has unveiled the Wrangler Rubicon 20th Anniversary edition for the 392 and 4xe trim levels.

The 20th Anniversary edition mainly focuses on appearance upgrades, but it does get a half-inch suspension lift and an onboard air compressor if you go with the 392 version. There’s also an optional Level II uplift from American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) on both trims if you want even more capability. It adds 37-inch off-road tires, AEV bumpers and skid plates, a more rugged suspension, a winch, off-road lights, an AEV steering damper and tire carrier. The 4xe also gets a 4.56:1 axle ratio.

On the outside there’s a new version of Jeep’s seven-bar grille and a triple-hoop grille guard. The 20th Anniversary edition also gets steel bumpers, an off-road camera, an 83-piece tool kit and badging. Inside there’s a red and black color scheme.

“Twenty years ago, a small group of enthusiastic Jeep engineers affectionately known as the ‘Lunatic Fringe,’ with grit and determination and their personal credit cards, designed, engineered and developed the most capable Wrangler yet – the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon – and overdelivered on everyone’s expectations because they knew it was what Jeep customers wanted,” said Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America. “Today the Rubicon model represents about a quarter of overall Wrangler sales, with more than 700,000 sold worldwide, and include the electrified Rubicon 4xe, the best-selling and most capable PHEV in America. That same spirit of determination and ingenuity that led to the creation of the Wrangler Rubicon lives on in these new 20th anniversary special editions, which for the first time, bring available 37s to the Wrangler, providing unmatched capability.”

Jeep says that the 20th Anniversary edition is a “limited run” but it hasn’t stated how many will be built. The pricing for the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe 20th Anniversary starts at $71,380, including destination. The 2023 Wrangler Rubicon 392 20th Anniversary is priced at $92,690.
