GMC has unveiled the 2023 GMC Canyon midsize truck, which follows the recent introduction of its cousin, the Chevrolet Colorado. The midsize pickup segment has been heating up with the arrival of the new Nissan Frontier and the upcoming next generation Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma models. The 2023 Canyon has been completely revamped with new styling, a much improved interior and new tech features.

The 2023 Canyon looks more imposing than the last generation with its big upright grille, more sculpted body and wider track. The Canyon also comes with a factory lift and off-road suspension package. The base elevation, AT4 and Denali trim levels get a 2-inch lift, while the AT4X gets a 3-inch lift. Every 2023 Canyon will be a Crew Cab with a short-box. The Canyon also gets a trick tailgate with an integrated watertight compartment. The tailgate also has a midway-open function and there are eight standard tie-down points.

The new AT4X is the most off-road ready version of the new Canyon with its wider track, 3-inch lift, Multimatic DSSV shock absorbers, 33-inch mud terrain tires, cast-iron control arms, underbody skid plates and a special Baja drive mode. There’s also a special Edition 1 package for the AT4X that adds an off-road front bumper with safari bar, a 30-inch grille light bar, beadlock-capable wheels, a Comeup winch,  a reconfigurable bed rail system and a front skid plate.

Inside the Canyon’s interior gets a major upgrade with higher quality materials, better tech and a more interesting design. At the center of the dashboard there’s a standard 11.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The screen also offers up to 10 camera angles to make it even easier to go off-roading. There’s also an 8-inch digital cluster on the Elevation and AT4 models, while the Denali and AT4X models get a larger 11-inch display. A 6.3-inch head-up display is also available.

Under the hood there’s just one engine available, a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, that’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The 2023 GMC Canyon will arrive next spring.
