GMC has pulled back the curtain on the all-new 2027 Sierra 1500. The premium full-size pickup has been given a thorough overhaul that brings next-generation V8 engines, a more refined interior and an AT4X off-roader with even more mettle to its name.

2027 GMC Sierra 1500

You can expect to see the next-generation Sierra arrive before 2026 is out. It is built around GMC’s “Professional Grade” ethos, with an expanded powertrain lineup and a fresh look both inside and out.

What is under the hood is the headline for 2027.

The Sierra 1500 is getting sixth-generation 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter Small Block V8s. According to GMC, these have been overhauled in terms of combustion and engine management for better durability and refinement. They don’t have the final horsepower and torque numbers to put on the table yet, but they are engineered to put down more power whether you are on an off-road trail or putting in hard work towing and hauling.

There is also an updated TurboMax four-cylinder engine for best-in-class standard torque and the Duramax 3.0-liter turbo-diesel, which remains exclusive to the class. A 10-speed automatic is mated to them all. We will have to wait until closer to launch for the rest of the performance specs.

From the outside, the 2027 model is more muscular. You will notice a larger, more upright grille and reworked LED head and taillights; some trims will have animated lighting sequences and quad exhaust outlets.

Styling has been used to set the models apart, so there is a clear line between the work-focused trucks and the luxury of the Denali or the off-road intent of the AT4.

GMC has done the same with the cabin. Premium materials are everywhere, including real wood trim and a panoramic sunroof. The Denali Ultimate gets some exclusive forged wood accents. In the Crew Cab, front headroom and legroom are now best in class. And for when you are on the job site, the new MultiPro center console gives you a place to put your gear or use as a work surface.

The Denali Ultimate has always been the top dog of the Sierra range, but GMC has made it something else for 2027.

It is powered by a 6.6-liter V8 that they claim is the most potent naturally aspirated unit in its segment. Up front, digital displays add up to more than 60 inches of screen real estate: a 16.3-inch infotainment system, an 11.5-inch display for the passenger and a 12.2-inch cluster for the driver. The passenger side can be put away behind an articulating cover to keep the dash looking clean.

Tech on offer includes a 15-inch head-up display, an 8.5-inch digital rearview mirror and a 16-speaker Bose system with speakers in the headrests. Three years of Super Cruise comes with the package, good for over 600,000 miles of compatible roads in North America, even with a trailer in tow.

2027 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X

If you like to get off the pavement, the revised AT4X is up to the task.

GMC has fitted it with a 2-inch factory lift and new Multimatic Jounce Control dampers for stability at speed. Then there are the 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, the biggest ever on a Sierra, plus electronic locking differentials front and rear.

The AT4X has its own hood and front fascia, and inside you will find a flat-bottom wheel and heavily bolstered seats in an exclusive Timber Mahogany scheme. For those who want every advantage on the trail, the AEV Edition package is still an option for extra protection and equipment.

Whether you need a no-nonsense work truck or one of the most luxurious on the market, the 2027 lineup has you covered with Pro, Elevation, AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate trims.

Pricing and the fine print will be forthcoming, but with the new V8s and a cabin that has been dramatically upgraded, the redesigned Sierra is well positioned to go toe-to-toe with the Ford F-150, Ram 1500 and Silverado.
