BMW has some big changes planned for its M division. Bimmer Today recently got some time with BMW M boss Frank van Meel who revealed that the 2023 BMW M2 will be the last M model with a non-electrified powertrain.

We will see increasing electrification in other vehicles, of course in different forms, starting with the 48-volt electrical system and plug-in hybrids to fully electric drives. From this point of view, the M2 will be the last M with a pure combustion engine drive and also without electrification scope such as a 48-volt on-board network, yes.”

So after 2023 BMW M will move “in the direction of e-mobility.”

BMW hasn’t announced when the 2023 M2 will debut, but it has released a few teasers. We’re also looking forward to the debut of the XM SUV, which is slated to be revealed later this year.
