Lexus is ready to get into the compact crossover segment with the debut of the 2019 Lexus UX crossover, which just debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. Lexus says that the UX has been designed for the “urban explorer” with its aggressive, yet compact exterior.
The 2019 UX is based on the brand’s new GA-C (Global Architecture – Compact) platform, which is supposed to have a “super-rigid structure and low center of gravity.” At 177 inches long, the UX crossover about five inches shorter than the Lexus NX, which will help it fit into those smaller parking spaces in the city. But its 103.9-inch wheelbase is less than an inch shorter than the larger NX, which means that it’s interior should be able to easily fit a few of your friends.
Now about that styling, the UX features many of the same styling cues as the NX and RX models. Lexus has sculpted the exterior with large front and rear fender flares, while its spindle grille uses a new block-shape mesh pattern. At the rear full-width taillights feature 120 LEDs.
The 2019 Lexus UX will be available in two versions: the UX 200 and UX 250h. The UX 200 is powered by a new 168-hp 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that’s mated to a CVT, while the UX 250h pairs the same 2.0-liter gas engine with a new fourth generation hybrid drive system that generates a total 176-hp. A new E-Four system gives the UX 250h all-wheel drive capability by using an additional electric motor on the rear axle.
The 2019 Lexus UX will arrive in December.
