When the updated Golf goes on sale it will be the first non-luxury, compact car to offer gesture control. The Golf’s new 9.2-inch infotainment system can be be operated either by touch or by simply waving your hands in front of it. Drivers will also notice a new Digital Cockpit that does away with the conventional analog dials and instead features a digital speedometer and tachometer. The 12.5-inch screen can be configured to show vehicle information or navigation.
You can officially do away with trying to remember to bring the cord to charge your phone, since an inductive pad will allow for wireless charging. Lastly the new traffic jam assist feature will allow the Golf to follow the road/ traffic for short periods at a low speed.
Under the hood, there are new engines, but VW hasn’t confirmed the US specs. In Europe, the GTI will get a small horsepower boost to 230 horsepower and 245 in the Performance trim. A new 1.5L engine is also being introduced.
Back to those styling changes, the only big changes on the outside are an updated grille with LED headlights, new LED taillights and some new wheel designs.
