Subaru fans will love all the Subaru news this morning. In addition to the new BRZ tS, Subaru has also unveiled the new 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA. The RA in the name stands for Record Attempt and as its name suggests, the WRX STI Type RA will be the most hardcore WRX available.
The 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA arrives with the BRZ tS early next year
To start, the WRX STI Type RA gets a little more power for a total 310 horsepower from the 2.5L turbocharged boxer engine. The extra five horsepower is available thanks to a new cold air intake, upgraded pistons, a tweaked ECU and a high-flow exhaust. The Subaru Tecnica International (STI) team also made some updates to the six-speed manual transmission’s third gear ratio and also added a short throw shifter.

A carbon fiber roof and lightweight 19-inch BBS wheels help reduce the WRX STI Type RA’s weight. The STI went on to add a front splitter, Brembo brakes, inverted front struts and a rear double wishbone suspension with Bilstein dampers. The biggest thing everyone will notice is the large carbon fiber rear wing.
Inside the driver and front passenger will get to sit in Recaro seats and the steering wheel is wrapped in Ultrasuede to give it better grip.
The WRX STI Type RA will be available in WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica and Crystal White Pearl. It will arrive in the US in the first quarter of 2018, but only 500 units will be produced.
