In terms of the design, Ford says that the updates make the 2018 Mustang look more athletic. The front gets a new hood and grille that are supposed to deliver a leaner look, but the jury may be out on the new face. The Mustang’s face also gets LED front lights including signature lighting, low-beams, turn signals, efficient projector high-beams and available fog lamps.

Inside the center console gets a new hand-stitched wrap with contrast stitching and padded knee bolsters while door handles, rings and bezels are finished in aluminum. Restyled seating surfaces feature new patterns and color choices, while the instrument panel gets an updated Mustang badge and there’s a new key fob design. On the tech front, the Mustang also is available with a new 12-inch LCD screen that will replace the conventional gauges in front of the driver. The customizable instrument cluster can be easily personalized, offering three separate views. Customers can personalize the displays for normal, sport and track mode.

Under the hood, there are some significant changes. First the naturally-aspirated 3.7L V6 is done. That means the 2018 Mustang will only be offered with the 2.3L turbocharged four-cylinder or the 5.0L V8. The 5.0-liter V8 engine has been reworked to give it more powerful and it also revs higher than any Mustang GT before. This power increase was achieved with the first application for Mustang of Ford’s new dual-fuel, high-pressure direct injection and low-pressure port fuel injection on a V8 engine. The six-speed manual transmission has been upgraded and a new 10-speed automatic transmission is optional.
