2017 Porsche Boxster and Cayman to get flat-four boxer engine

Porsche has confirmed that both the Boxster and Cayman will get a new four-cylinder engine next year. Porsche CEO Matthias Müller has revealed that both models will be getting a flat-four boxer engine by mid-2016, which will be the first time that Porsche has sold a four-cylinder engine in the U.S. in 20 years.

Porsche has confirmed that both the Boxster and Cayman will get a new four-cylinder engine next year. Porsche CEO Matthias Müller has revealed that both models will be getting a flat-four boxer engine by mid-2016, which will be the first time that Porsche has sold a four-cylinder engine in the U.S. in 20 years.
If the four-cylinder is successful in the Boxster and Cayman there is a chance that it could be offered in other Porsche models, like the Macan.

“First of all, we will have it in the Boxster and Cayman successor,” Mueller revealed to Automotive News. “And then we will see how it works and how successful it is and how the customers will react on that, and then we will take the next decisions.”

Porsche hasn’t revealed any specs about the new four-cylinder, but it could come in 2.0L and 2.5L versions, both with turbochargers bolted on.
