Compared to the retractable hardtop version of the third-generation MX-5, Mazda decided to go with a different design for the four-generation. Instead of completely stowing the roof, like on the last model, the new MX-5 RF has a retractable roof, but a new fastback style. The MX-5 RF’s retractable hardtop consists of a front roof, middle roof, rear roof and back window glass. With the top closed, the MX-5 RF has a fastback coupe look that is far more beautiful to look at than the last model. When the driver wants a more open air driving experience, the overhead roof panels and back window glass are stowed away out of sight.
One of the best parts is that the roof panels and glass don’t take any extra cargo space compared to the soft top version.
The MX-5 RF is powered by the same 155-hp 2.0L engine as the soft top.
