BMW has reportedly confirmed that an X2 is coming for 2017 and a larger X7 crossover may also be in the works.
BMW continues to expand its crossover lineup and just a few weeks ago it unveiled the 2015 X4 crossover, which is essentially a smaller X6 that is based on the X3 crossover. BMW is going to stop there and it’s reportedly confirmed that an X2 is coming for 2017 and a larger X7 crossover may also be in the works.
First the latest reports claim that BMW has signed off on the 2017 X2, which will be yet another small crossover coupe that will be based on the next-generation X1. The X1 is going to move to BMW’s new front-wheel-drive platform, so the X1 and X2 will also share its underpinnings with the next MINI Countryman. It’s also being reported that the X2 will only be offered with all-wheel-drive and it will also get a three-door version in addition to a regular five-door version.

Next Friday BMW is hosting a press event at its Spartanburg plant in South Carolina on March 28. There are reports that BMW may announce plans to produce a new crossover at the plant, in the form of a larger X7. The X7 would add a larger three-row crossover to the BMW lineup, which could compete with models like the Mercedes-Benz GL.
