Audi is reportedly working on an all-electric version of its upcoming Q8 SUV, which will go head to head with the Tesla Model X SUV.
The Q8 SUV is being positioned as a more stylish and sleeker version of the next Q7 and the Q8 e-tron will borrow its powertrain from the R8 e-tron. By borrowing its battery and electric powertrain from the R8 e-tron, Audi’s engineers are hoping that the Q8 e-tron will have a range of 370 miles.

The Q8 is going to be based on the next Q7, but will have a higher waistline and lower roofline to help it compete with models like the BMW X6 and upcoming Mercedes MLC. Five and seven-seat configurations are expected. A high-performance SQ8 is also expected.

The Audi Q8 won’t arrive until sometime in 2017.
