2016 Chevy Cruze loses weight, gains standard turbo and more features

Chevy has revealed the all-new second-generation 2016 Chevy Cruze, which is now larger and lighter, more efficient and comes with more features. The new Cruze will be offered in more than 40 global markets, but it will go on sale first in North America in early 2016.

Chevy has revealed the all-new second-generation 2016 Chevy Cruze, which is now larger and lighter, more efficient and comes with more features. The new Cruze will be offered in more than 40 global markets, but it will go on sale first in North America in early 2016.

The new Cruze adopts many of the same styling cues as the new Malibu. It’s new exterior is more expressive than the outgoing model and at the same time its also sleeker with a lower coefficient of drag at 0.29. The new Cruze is 2.7 inches longer, but almost one inch shorter for a longer and sleeker appearance. The 2016 Cruze also rides on a new lighter platform that helps it drop 250 pounds compared to the old Cruze.

Inside the interior is more spacious with more rear legroom and the overall styling is built around the Chevy-signature dual-cockpit theme. The center stack also comes standard with a MyLink screen that integrates certain phone functions onto the Cruze’s seven-inch-diagonal color touchscreen, allowing them to call up music, navigation apps and more. An uplevel MyLink radio with an eight-inch display and navigation is available and also incorporates Apple CarPlay.

Under the hood the 2016 Cruze is powered by a standard 1.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 153 horsepower and 177 lb-ft. of torque. Chevy estimates that it will accelerate the 2016 Cruze from 0-60 mph in around eight seconds, but at the same time get 40 mpg on the highway with the six-speed automatic transmission. A six-speed manual is optional. The four-cylinder also features start/stop technology.
