Following the debut of the Toyota 86, Toyota GT 86 and Subaru BRZ, we now have our first official look at the 2013 Scion FR-S, which is the American version of Toyota’s new rear-wheel-drive coupe.
The 2013 Scion FR-S is the fifth model to join the Scion family. FR-S stands for Front-engine, Rear-wheel drive, Sport.
“Serving as a laboratory for Toyota, Scion is always experimenting with new things,” said Jack Hollis, Scion vice president. “The brand is iconic with the xB, adrenalized by the tC, and groundbreaking with the iQ. The FR-S will no doubt serve as the halo car, expanding Scion into a new dimension of driving performance.”
The Scion FR-S is powered by the same Subaru boxer engine as the Subaru BRZ. The 2.0L boxer engine packs 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft. of torque. The four-cylinder is mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
The Scion FR-S finally brings a sporty coupe back to Toyota’s lineup that is inspired by the Toyota 2000GT. It’s set to go on sale in the spring.
