Lexus already unveiled the all-new 2013 Lexus GS 350 last month in Pebble Beach and now the second version of the new GS is debuting this week. The 2013 Lexus GS 450h is the hybrid version of the GS. On the outside the GS 450h looks identical to the GS 350, but under the hood it’s powered by a hybrid system that puts out a total 338 horsepower.
The GS 450h is powered by a Atkinson cycle 3.5L V6 with a 13:1 compression ratio and is mated to an electric motor. The Lexus Hybrid Drive system gets its power from a nickel-metal hydride battery. The hybrid gets a new drive mode selector that features four drive modes in addition to the normal setting: Eco, Sport S, Sport S+ and EV modes.
“The all-new GS 450h will provide our customers with an exciting blend of performance and precision in a new hybrid package,” said Mark Templin, Lexus group vice president and general manager in the U.S. “With its dynamic exterior styling, roomy interior and advanced technology features, the GS 450h further demonstrates Lexus’ mastery of the luxury hybrid.”
Lexus hasn’t released the fuel economy numbers, but does claim that the hybrid will reach 0-60 mph in 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 131 mph.
