Now that the all-new 2016 Maxima is here, Nissan is reportedly looking at the possibility of adding a sportier NISMO-tuned version.
Nissan continues to bill the Maxima as a four-door sports sedan, but over the years it’s been debatable about how much of that was actually true. Now that the all-new 2016 Maxima is here, Nissan is reportedly looking at the possibility of adding a sportier NISMO-tuned version.
If it gets the green light, the Maxima NISMO would be positioned as the range-topping model in the Maxima lineup with upgrades, like an upgraded suspension, more power under the hood and bigger brakes. It remains to be seen if the Maxima NISMO would get a retuned version of the 300-hp 3.5L V6 that currently powers the Maxima or if it would instead use the 3.7L V6 that powers several Infiniti models.

Nissan hasn’t made the final decision, since it ultimately comes down to sales. Nissan is trying to see how much demand there could be for a Maxima NISMO.
