Volkswagen is planning on introducing a new subcompact SUV in the US as soon as 2016, according to Marc Trahan, executive VP of VW of America. The new subcompact SUV could also be produced at VW’s plant in Chattanooga, TN.
Trahan stated that the Chattanooga plant is in the lead as the top plant to produce the new SUV. “We’ve made a significant investment in Chattanooga and it’s one that we want to have its full potential realized.”

VW is going to finalize the decision by the end of the year and it looks like the Chattanooga plant will beat out VW’s plant in Mexico. VW is still reportedly mulling a decision about a new larger seven-passenger SUV based on the CrossBlue concept that could also be built in Chattanooga.
