VW is close to a decision regarding the production of the all-new Golf, which was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, last month. VW has built the past Golf models at its German plants in Wolfsburg and Zwickau, but VW may start producing the Golf at its Puebla, Mexico plant according to CEO Martin Winterkorn.

There has been speculation that VW would move production of the Golf to the U.S., but VW’s Chattanooga, Tennessee plant is already at its capacity. If VW does add another model to the plant, which currently builds the Passat, it will most likely be a new larger SUV.

If Golf production does move to the Puebla, Mexico plant, production will not kick off until the end of 2014 or early 2015. The seventh-generation VW Golf is not expected to arrive in the U.S. until 2014.
