Next week VW is going to unveil the Golf SportWagen concept at the New York Auto Show that is powered by a 2.0L diesel engine and all-wheel-drive. Even though VW is labeling it as a concept, the Golf SportWagen that we’ll see next week is basically what will show up in showrooms next year as the replacement for the Jetta SportWagen.
The Golf SportWagen concept is based on the seventh generation Golf platform and VW says that it is lighter, bigger, roomier, more fuel efficient and more powerful than the outgoing SportWagen model. The Golf SportWagen is 1.1 inches longer and 0.7 inches wider than the current SportWagen model. Also although the new SportWagen’s overall height was lowered by nearly an inch, front and rear headroom has been improved by 0.4 inches.

when the Golf SportWagen arrives it will be powered by either a 170-hp turbocharged 1.8L four-cylinder or a 150-hp 2.0L diesel engine. The 1.8L engine can be mated to either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic, while the diesel gets either a six-speed manual or DSG dual-clutch automatic.
