VW is bringing electric versions of the Golf and up! to the Frankfurt Motor Show, the e-Golf and e-up! Earlier this year VW unveiled the e-up!, so the bigger news is the debut of the electric Golf.

The e-Golf is powered by a 113 horsepower electric motor with 199 lb-ft. of torque. The e-Golf can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 10.4 seconds and has a top speed of 87 mph. It can also travel between 81 and 118 miles between charges.

Since the seventh-generation Golf was designed from the beginning to be able to house an electric powertrain, VW was able to integrate the lithium-ion battery within a stabilizing frame in the vehicle floor (under the front and rear seats and in the area of the center tunnel). Re-charging the e-Golf can take anywhere from 13 hours with a standard charger or up to 80 percent in 30 minutes using the new fast charger.
