The VW Atlas only went on sale about a year and a half ago, but it’s quickly become one of the brand’s most important models in the US. Sales of the VW Atlas have ramped up over the last year and now VW has announced that it’s already produced over 100,000 Atlas SUVs at its plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The 100,000th VW Atlas to roll off the production line was a 2019 Atlas SEL premium model that was painted in Pacific Blue.

“Our objective for the Atlas has been to assemble an SUV in America for Americans and we have been very encouraged by the success of the vehicle so far,” said Antonio Pinto, CEO of Volkswagen Chattanooga. “This is just the first of many production milestones we anticipate celebrating for the Atlas, and it would not have been possible without the world-class team here in Chattanooga.”

VW also produces the slow selling Passat at its Chattanooga plant, but in March of this year it also announced plans to build a new five-passenger SUV at the plant. The new five-passenger SUV was previewed by the Atlas Cross Sport concept at this year’s New York Auto Show. Production of the new five-passenger SUV is slated to begin in 2019.
