Volkswagen’s SUV lineup is expanding with the all-new Tiguan, which follows the arrival of the new three-row Atlas, but sadly one model is about to disappear – the Touareg. It has been a question of how the Touareg would fit in Volkswagen’s new SUV lineup and now we know how, it won’t. It’s being reported that the VW Touareg will disappear from the United States after the 2017 model year.

The Touareg was released in 2004 and for a few years was the only SUV in VW’s lineup until the Tiguan arrived. The Touareg was always an interesting entry, since it competed more with five-passenger luxury SUVs rather than the more family oriented models that the new Atlas will go after. VW is also preparing a new Touareg, but sadly it won’t be offered in the U.S.

With the departure of the Touareg, SUV buyers will probably not really even miss it with the arrival of the Atlas, the new Tiguan and the upcoming T-Roc SUV.
