Last week Volkswagen announced the pricing for its new small crossover, the 2022 Taos. Now VW has revealed the fuel economy specs.

2022 Volkswagen Taos

The 2022 Taos is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, that’s mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The front-wheel drive version is rated at 28 mpg city, 36 mpg highway and 31 mpg combined. The all-wheel drive Taos is slightly less fuel efficient at 25/32/28 mpg.

Those specs are better than the FWD Honda HR-V, which is rated at 28 mpg city, 34 mpg highway and 31 mpg combined. The all-wheel HR-V is rated at 27/31/29 mpg. The Taos also beats the Toyota C-HR, which is rated at 27/31/29 mpg. It also beats the Chevy Trailblazer, which is rated at 29/33/31 mpg with front-wheel drive and 26/30/28 mpg with all-wheel drive.

The 2022 Volkswagen Taos starts at $22,995, plus the destination charge.
