VW has announced the updates to the 2019 VW GTI, which gets two big additions for the new model year. First the 2019 GTI now gets eight more horsepower to give it a total 228 horsepower. Second the new limited edition GTI Rabbit Edition has been added to the lineup.

The 2019 VW GTI Rabbit Edition adds 18-inch gloss black alloy wheels, a black rear spoiler, LED headlights with the Adaptive Front-lighting System, black mirror caps, Rabbit-badged seat tags, red-stitched floor mats, KESSY keyless access with push-button start, Front Assist, Blind Spot Monitor, and Rear Traffic Alert. The limited production 2019 GTI Rabbit Edition will be available in four colors: Cornflower Blue, Urano Grey, Pure White and Deep Black Pearl.

Other additions to the 2019 GTI, include the brakes from the Golf R and a VAQ mechanical differential. The base S model is available with the Driver Assistance package, which includes Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring, Blind Spot Monitor, and Rear Traffic Alert. The Driver Assistance package is standard on the SE, Autobahn and Rabbit Edition models.

Lastly, the 2019 GTI SE gets standard leather seatings, plus a new available Experience Package, which offers Fender Premium Audio and DCC chassis control.

The 2019 VW GTI starts at $28,490 with the six-speed manual or $29,590 with the seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.
