Wagon fans will love this! Volkswagen has unveiled the Golf R Variant, which is going to debut this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show. With 296 horsepower on tap and standard all-wheel-drive the Golf R Variant isn’t just another boring wagon.
The Golf R Variant is basically a wagon version of the hot Golf R hatchback. For the first time ever, VW is going to produce a wagon version of the Golf R. The Golf R Variant is powered by the same turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 296 horsepower and 280 lb-ft. of torque. The four-cylinder is mated to a six-speed DSG transmission and permanent 4Motion all-wheel-drive.
VW says that the Golf R Variant will zoom to 62 mph in 5.1 seconds and that it has an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph.
The Golf R Variant is set to go on sale in Europe in the spring of 2015, but US plans have not been announced. Obviously VW is going to gauge interest for the wagon version of the Golf R at the LA Auto Show.
