The Mazda MX-5 Miata is easily one of the best performance bargains on the road, with its light weight and nimble chassis. Nearly everyone can agree that the MX-5 Miata is a hoot to drive, but those same people can also almost all agree that it would be even more fun with bit more power. The MX-5 Miata’s 2.0L four-cylinder only generates 155 horsepower, but Mazda tuning specialist BBR just answered your prayers with a new turbo kit for the MX-5 Miata.
If you haven’t heard of BBR, the tuner has been tuning Miatas since the 1990s. BBR has announced a new turbo kit for the MX-5 Miata, which bumps up the roadster’s specs to 248 horsepower and 236 lb-ft., up from 155 horsepower and 148 lb-ft. The kit gives the MX-5 Miata a 0-60 mph time of five seconds and a limited top speed of 155 mph.
The BBR turbo kit adds a twin-scroll turbocharger, a carbon fiber heat shield, a K&N induction system and a new ECU. The kit is available in the U.S. through a distributor named FLyin’ Miata and the pricing starts at $5,695.

“Having rejected all other forced induction methods, our extensive dyno and road testing has proven that our choice of a low-back pressure twin-scroll turbocharger, with its enhanced exhaust scavenging ability, is the optimal solution,” stated Neil Mckay of BBR. “It works harmoniously with the original SKYACTIV-G layout and knock-resistant technologies, as is evident by the impressive power figures achieved at very modest boost pressures.”
