Toyota isn’t ready to give out all the details yet about the 2019 Supra, but last week we got a closer look at it when a prototype debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. At the event, Toyota’s chief engineer also let out a few hints at some of the 2019 Supra’s specs.
Speaking to Autocar, Tetsuya Tada revealed that the 2019 Toyota Supra’s in-line six-cylinder engine will generate around the same lb-ft. of torque as the 5.0L V8 in the Lexus F Series models. The RC F and GS F have 389 lb-ft. Tada did not reveal the horsepower specs, but it’s being reported that the 2019 Supra’s 3.0L six-cylinder engine will generate 335 horsepower. He also provided some hints at how much the 2019 Supra will weigh.
“I can’t disclose specific figures, but the output of this engine is on a par with that which we have with the F-Series from Lexus,” Tada stated. “But you can imagine from seeing it that the car is light and compact – its wheelbase is even shorter than the GT86’s. It’s around 200-300kg (441-661 lbs) lighter than the F-Series.” The Lexus RC F weighs in at 3,958 lbs, while the GS F weighs 4,034 lbs.
No matter how much the 2019 Supra weighs, it will have perfect 50:50 weight distribution and the power will be sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Tada also revealed, “The center of gravity is lower than the GT86’s, and body rigidity is twice that of the GT86.”
The 2019 Toyota Supra will finally debut early next year before production kicks off in the spring.
