Toyota has unveiled the new Tj Cruiser concept, which is basically what would happen if a van and SUV had a kid. The Toyota Tj Cruiser concept studies the idea of how fusing the two body styles together could create a functional vehicle for drivers with active lifestyles.

Although its name is a play on the FJ Cruiser name, The “T” Tj Cruiser stands for toolbox, while the “j” stands for joy in reference to the joy of visiting various places by concept.

On the outside, the Tj Cruiser features a squared-off design that looks more like a van than an SUV, but its higher ground clearance and rugged details are supposed to make it look a little like an SUV. The rear, roof and bumpers are also covered in a special material to help resist scratches and dirt.

The squared-off exterior provides lots of space in side for the passengers and their gear. The seats can also be folded completely flat to allow room for surfboards and the large rear door makes it easier to load or unload large items, like bikes.

The Tj Cruiser concept rides on the TNGA platform and is powered by a 2.0L engine that’s mated to an electric motor. Since it is part SUV, the Tj Cruiser concept also has all-wheel drive.

The Toyota TJ Cruiser concept will debut on October 25 at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.
