A few months ago, Bob Carter, Toyota North America executive vice president for sales, announced that Toyota will soon expand its Gazoo Racing performance sub-brand. Toyota has been hinting at a sport GR Corolla hatchback and now it looks like we’re getting closer to its debut, since Toyota has been dropping small teasers on social media.
Last week Toyota posted a teaser of the GR Corolla with some hints about what we can expect under the skin. Now we have another teaser where we get to see a camouflaged GR Corolla hanging out in the background. We can’t see much, but we expect the GR Corolla to get a more aggressive front and rear fascias to help it stand out from the regular Corolla hatchback.
Under the hood it’s expected that the GR Corolla will get the same 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The GR Corolla may get a bit more power than the GR Yaris, which means it may have over 260 horsepower. All that power will be sent to all four wheels, which makes it the perfect rival to the VW Golf R.
