Toyota has reportedly filled an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office to trademark the Supra name, which provides more proof that the Supra is set for a come back. It may seem odd that Toyota is reapplying to trademark the Supra name, but the original application from 1979 expired in 2006.
This is great news for Supra fans, since the return of the iconic sports car has been in all the headlines after Toyota unveiled the FT-1 concept in Detroit last month. Toyota has yet to officially confirm that the FT-1 is a direct preview of the Supra, but there have been several reports that the Supra will arrive in 2016 with styling borrowed from the FT-1.

In case you missed it, it is also being reported that the Supra will get two different powertrains. The base model is going to be powered by a turbocharged 2.0L, while the top version is going to get a 2.5L hybrid system with around 400 horsepower.
