Toyota is reportedly going to debut a new sports car next month that previews a successor to the Toyota Supra.
Back in 2007 Toyota unveiled the FT-HS hybrid sports car, which previewed a successor to the much loved Toyota Supra. Almost seven years later a successor the Supra never happened, but now Toyota may be set to preview a new Supra at the Detroit Auto Show next month.
According to sources that spoke with Autoblog, a new concept is going to take the stage next month in Detroit that is going to preview a new Supra. In 2007 Toyota was set to introduce a new Supra with a hybrid drivetrain, but the financial crisis that hit the following year put the plans on hold.
Now times have changed. Toyota wants to build more exciting models and Acura is set to introduce a new NSX in 2015. A Supra hybrid sports car would also give Toyota something to compete against the hybrid NSX, in addition to the next Nissan GT-R, which may also get a hybrid system.
