Toyota has confirmed that the Land Cruiser is going to return to the U.S. market, but other than that announcement, we don’t have a confirmation about what it will look like. When Toyota made the announcement about the Land Cruiser’s return, it showed off some old school Land Cruiser badges, which could be a clue to what we can expect.

Australia’s Drive is reporting that the new US-market Land Cruiser will borrow design cues from the past, specifically the iconic FJ40 and the 70-series version, which wasn’t sold in the US. The report claims that the new Land Cruiser will have round headlights and that it will be positioned as more of an off-roading SUV, like the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco, instead of a luxury SUV. Which is ironically something that we wished when we reviewed the last Land Cruiser.

The U.S. market Land Cruiser will also not be based on the 300-series Land Cruiser that is sold in other markets and instead it will be based on the Land Cruiser Prado, which is closely related to the Lexus GX.
