Toyota has resisted the EV segment for years and now it’s finally ready to jump in the fully electric segment. Toyota has announced that it will reveal a new midsize electric SUV at the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show.

The new electric SUV is based on Toyota’s new e-TNGA platform, which will eventually be used by a lineup of of new EVs for Toyota and Subaru. The new platform can also accommodate front, rear or all-wheel drive with a wide range of battery and electric motor capacities to suit different electric vehicles. The platform can also accommodate different widths, lengths, heights and wheelbases.

We don’t know much about the new electric SUV, but what we’ll see later this month is expected to a close-to-production concept. We will get all the details when the Shanghai Motor Show opens to the press on April 19.
