This Lexus IS is made entirely out of cardboard and you can drive it

While automakers try to find new alternatives to steel, here’s one material that we didn’t see coming. Lexus has revealed an IS sedan that is made entirely out of cardboard.

While automakers try to find new alternatives to steel, here’s one material that we didn’t see coming. Lexus has revealed an IS sedan that is made entirely out of cardboard. The best part is even though it’s made out of 1,700 sheets of cardboard, the unique IS also has an electric motor that makes it drivable.

Called the Origami car, the unique Lexus features a full interior, functioning headlights, doors and wheels. Lexus teamed up with London-based LaserCut Works and Scales and Models to create the Origami Car.

Ruben Marcos, Scales and Models Company founder and director explained: “This was a very demanding job, with five people involved in the digital design, modelling, laser cutting and assembly. Just like Lexus, we were committed to producing the best possible quality.”
