It was rumored yesterday and now Porsche has confirmed that the next-generation Porsche Macan will be fully electric when it arrives in the next decade.

Later this year Porsche will introduce the Taycan, its first fully electric car, which will then be followed by the Taycan Cross Turismo. The next-generation Macan will be the brand’s third fully electric model and it will be built at Porsche’s plant in Leipzig, Germany.

Porsche hasn’t released any big details yet, but the electric Macan will have 800-volt charging technology and it will ride on the PPE architecture (Premium Platform Electric) that Porsche developed with Audi. The Macan EV is part of a major investment that Porsche is making to electrify its lineup.

“Electromobility and Porsche go together perfectly; not just because they share a high-efficiency approach, but especially because of their sporty character,” comments Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche AG. “By 2022 we will be investing more than six billion euros in electric mobility, and by 2025 50% of all new Porsche vehicles could have an electric drive system.”

It’s rumored that the next-generation Porsche Macan will arrive in 2022.
